Product Introduction

Filmetrics F10-AR Thin Film Thickness Measuring Instrument is a simple and cost-effective anti-reflective and hard coating detection device designed specifically for measuring the thickness of anti-reflective (AR) coatings and hard coatings on ophthalmic lenses. Using spectral reflectance method and integrating multiple proprietary technologies, production line operators can complete measurements in seconds with just a few minutes of training. The optional UPG-F10-AR-HC software upgrade can measure hard coatings with thickness of 0.25-15μm, even in the presence of AR layers, accurately measuring hard coating thickness. The proprietary probe design effectively suppresses back reflection signals from substrates above 1.5mm, eliminating the need for back-side pre-processing steps. The AutoBaseline automatic baseline function significantly extends calibration intervals, delivering accuracy five times better than similar products. Supports pass/fail testing of minimum/maximum/average reflectivity within user-defined wavelength ranges. Suitable for quality inspection in ophthalmic lens manufacturing, optical coatings, automotive and aerospace hard coatings, and more.

Measurement Principle

When incident light penetrates interfaces between different materials, part of the light is reflected. Due to the wave nature of light, reflected light from multiple interfaces interferes, causing oscillations in the multi-wavelength spectrum of the reflected light. From the oscillation frequency of the spectrum, the distance between different interfaces can be determined to obtain material thickness (more oscillations indicate greater thickness), as well as material properties such as refractive index and roughness. The F10-AR uses a broadband light source combined with a high-precision spectrometer to achieve fast and accurate measurement of AR coatings and hard coatings.

Customer Reviews

The back reflection suppression probe on the F10-AR is very practical, allowing direct measurement without any treatment on the back of the lens, saving a lot of pre-processing time. The AutoBaseline function significantly extends calibration intervals and improves production line efficiency.

—— Ophthalmic Lens Manufacturer, Process Engineer

After upgrading with the HC software, we can accurately measure hard coating thickness even in the presence of the AR layer, which we could not achieve with other devices before. The residual color analysis function is of great help in optimizing the AR coating process.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can F10-AR measure both AR layer and hard coating thickness simultaneously?+

The standard F10-AR can measure the total thickness of AR coatings. After upgrading with the UPG-F10-AR-HC software, it can accurately and independently measure hard coating thickness (0.25-15μm) even in the presence of an AR layer.

What should be noted when measuring curved lenses?+

The proprietary probe design of the F10-AR can effectively suppress back reflection signals from substrates above 1.5mm and is also suitable for curved lenses. It is recommended to keep the probe perpendicular to the lens surface for optimal measurement results.

Is regular calibration necessary?+

The AutoBaseline automatic baseline function significantly extends calibration intervals, delivering accuracy five times better than similar products. In daily use, there is almost no need for frequent calibration, greatly reducing maintenance workload.

Can residual color be measured?+

Yes. The F10-AR has a built-in color space system that can visually display the residual colors of AR coatings, helping engineers quickly judge coating quality and process stability.

Do operators need professional training?+

No. Production line operators only need a few minutes of training to complete measurements within seconds. The software interface is intuitive, and one-click operation greatly reduces the learning curve.
