What is Parylene?
Poly-para-xylylene (abbreviated as parylene) is a kind of high-molecular polymer, and in China it is also called""Parylene.
Parylene was developed by union Carbide Co in the United States in the mid-1960s. Parylene, a new type of conformal coating material developed and applied, can be classified into various types such as N-type, C-type, D-type, and HT-type based on their molecular structures.
Basic characteristics of commonly used parylene materials
(1) Parylene C powder is waterproof and has 30% stronger anti-corrosion performance than N powder. Its voltage resistance is lower than that of N powder. C powder is suitable for PCBA.
(2) Parylene N powder has high voltage resistance and water resistance, but its anti-corrosion performance is lower than that of C powder. It is suitable for silicon steel sheets of micro motors, etc.
(3) The performance of Parylene HT-2 powder in terms of water resistance, anti-corrosion and voltage resistance has been improved by about 15% compared with C-N powder. It has been enhanced on the basis of C-N powder and has already replaced the production application of C-N powder.
(4) Parylene (F-VT4)-(F-AF4) powder, with strong UV resistance, is widely used in outdoor products. However, the material cost is relatively high, and customers are temporarily unable to accept the unit price.
What is Parylene C?

Parylene C is a commercially valuable member of the series. It is made of the same monomer, except that one of the aromatic hydrocarbon hydrogen atoms is replaced by a chlorine atom.
It combines excellent dielectric properties and physical and mechanical propertiesIt has very low permeability to moist and corrosive gases.
It can provide true pinhole-free conformal isolation. It meets the US military standard MIL-46058C and is a material for coating important circuit boards.
Characteristics of Parylene
Parylene deposition can be prepared by polymerizing active monomer gas onto the surface of objects, which is different from the general method of liquid coating.
Its active molecules form a completely coated polymer film on the surface of the object to be coated, which can be applied to any shape of surface without creating dead corners, including sharp edges, crevices and tiny pinholes.
The film thickness can be consistently applied to various parts of the product, ranging from 1um to 50um.
Parylene industry applications

Introduction to the manufacturing process of Parylene

Parylene is produced by chemical vapor deposition (CVD).
3 Gaseous active monomers are deposited and polymerized into Poly-para-xylylene films at room temperature.
